How to Style a Boot Room with Antiques

A boot room is one of those spaces that quietly carries the rhythm of everyday life. Boots kicked off after a walk, coats hung up in a hurry, baskets filled with gloves and scarves.

Because it is such a practical room, it can easily become cluttered. But with a few carefully chosen antique pieces, a boot room can feel just as considered and characterful as the rest of the house.

Here are a few simple ways we like to style a boot room with antiques.

A Seat with Character

One of the most useful pieces in a boot room is somewhere to sit while putting on or taking off shoes.

In our boot room we use an antique bobbin bench, but a single bobbin stool works just as beautifully. The turned wood adds warmth and texture, while still remaining practical for everyday use.

Antique wood pieces tend to feel softer and more welcoming than newly made furniture, especially in rooms where muddy boots and coats come and go throughout the day.

An Unexpected Antique Detail

Another piece we love in our boot room is an antique coat rack from an old Danish train.

It was originally designed for practicality, but the aged metal and simple hooks bring a quiet industrial charm to the space. Small finds like these are wonderful because they combine function and history in a way modern fittings rarely do.

Even a very practical space becomes more interesting when one or two unexpected antique pieces are introduced.

A Better Way to Store Cleaning Supplies

Boot rooms often end up housing cleaning supplies as well, which can quickly become chaotic inside deep cupboards.

To keep everything visible and organised, we created a bespoke wooden rack that fits exactly inside one of our cabinets. The shelves are deep enough to hold bottles and brushes upright, so nothing disappears at the back of the cupboard.

Instead of rummaging through a cluttered cabinet, everything is visible at a glance.

It is a small detail, but one that makes the room far more practical — and surprisingly satisfying to use every day.

A Practical Room That Still Feels Beautiful

Boot rooms may be designed for practicality, but that does not mean they have to feel purely functional.

A simple antique bench, a characterful coat rack or a thoughtfully designed storage solution can transform the room into something that feels both organised and welcoming — a small but important part of the home.
